Winemaker Tasting Notes

Malk Stags Leap District
Cabernet Sauvignon
2006
ONLY AVAILABLE IN VERTICALS

The Malk Family Vineyards 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is an excellent example of both the vineyard and the district. Ripe aromas of cassis extract, black cherry, and hints of spice show the classic nose of this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Underlying notes of vanilla and cedar also carry through to the palate, which exhibits a full body and rich tannins allowing the wine to be appreciated now, but should age nicely for years to come.

Malk Stags Leap District
Cabernet Sauvignon
2007
ONLY AVAILABLE IN VERTICALS

Release Date: October 2010

The 2007 Vintage of the Malk Family Vineyards is likely our best effort to date.  We find deeper notes of blackberry and black cherry in the 2007, along with the rich currant and ripe red fruit we’ve enjoyed in previous vintages.  The fruit aromas are highlighted with warm spicy notes that follow through to the palate giving way to the classic silky mouthfeel we have come to expect.  This vintage does offer a bit more extraction and body and should age well for many years.

Malk Stags Leap District
Cabernet Sauvignon
2008

Release Date: January 2012

The 2008 Malk Family Vineyards is the product of a moderate and well balanced growing season. This wine is sure to give you everything you expect from Malk wines with a touch more refinement and polish. The gorgeous nose starts with floral notes of fresh cut flowers and lavender. Deeper, richer notes of ripe blackberry and currant soon prevail and are complimented with background hints of chocolate, spice, and cedar. The palate is as developed as any Cabernet we have made. The silky entry is seductive but not light. The mid-palate has great depth and concentration without being bulky and heavy, and the finish has an elegant presence that completes the entire experience.

Located in the Oak Knoll District in the heart of Napa Valley, Ryan’s Vineyard named after owner George Verhey’s son is the source for our much loved Sauvignon Blanc. This vineyard produces consistent wonderful fruit from 15 year old vines. This wine is fermented in neutral oak barrels to gain the benefit of small amounts of air throughout the aging process without adding the impact of oak flavor. The juice was fermented with indigenous yeasts to offer the inherent complexity provided by this natural process, and the wine was allowed to age on the lees with light battonage to build the palate.
