10 Stellar California Sauvignon Blancs
New reviews of refreshing, fragrant whites for the dog days of summers

There’s a lot of intensity and elegance in this week’s roundup of California Sauvignon Blancs. The very best examples from the Golden State are fragrant and juicy, and have succulent, fleshy textures.

These 10 wines provide a good survey of what’s possible with the grape in California. Massican is at one end of the style spectrum: sleek and polished, with lip-smacking acidity. Robert Mondavi Fumé Blanc Napa Valley To Kalon Vineyard Reserve and Coup de Foudre are richer, smoother and creamier examples. Duckhorn falls in the middle: It’s succulent and supple, but still very juicy, with accents of lime and passion fruit. That’s good news, since the substantial case production of this wine means it should be widely available.

Accendo is the latest project from Bart and Daphne Araujo, who sold their namesake winery in 2013. The couple now makes Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc from their own vineyards in Oakville and St. Helena. This is our introduction to the brand, and the wine shows impressive clarity and vibrancy.
